Part of my Design Your Fabulous Next Chapter process is simple: try things on. Just like trying on clothes, you test ideas, experiment, and figure out what actually fits you now. Not who you were 20 years ago.
So recently, I decided to bake a cake. A totally new recipe, something I’d never even attempted. And as I’m measuring, mixing, hoping I don’t burn the house down, it hits me… this is exactly what midlife feels like.
Baking a cake for the first time is a lot like life after 50. The old rules? They don’t apply anymore. The old recipe? Irrelevant. What matters now is what works for the life you’re building. You take all your experience, all your lessons, all your strength, and you mix it with confidence. Yes, there will be mistakes. Yes, you’ll question yourself. But here’s the truth: this is the season where you rise.
When you realize you control the temperature, the pace, the goals, the boundaries, everything changes. You stop waiting for approval and start creating something richer, bolder, more aligned, and completely yours.
That’s the power of trying things on. And that’s how you design your next chapter.
